Hermès: Serial & UK Price Index
Hermès artisans blind-stamp each bag with a year letter and an individual craftsman/workshop identifier. From 1971 to 1996 the year letter sat inside a circle; from 1997 to 2014 inside a square; and since 2015 as an unframed letter paired with an alphanumeric artisan code.

Hermès Coding System: Blind Stamp Year Letter & Artisan Workshop Alphanumeric Code
| Production Era | Stamp / Serial Format | Archival Format & Hardware Inspection Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1971 – 1996 | Letter A to Z inside a Circle (e.g. (A) = 1971, (Z) = 1996) | Sequential alphabet inside a circular frame stamped on the sangle or interior gusset. |
| 1997 – 2014 | Letter A to R inside a Square (e.g. [A] = 1997, [R] = 2014) | Sequential alphabet inside a square frame: [A]=1997, [B]=1998, [C]=1999, [D]=2000, [E]=2001, [F]=2002, [G]=2003, [H]=2004, [I]=2005, [J]=2006, [K]=2007, [L]=2008, [M]=2009, [N]=2010, [O]=2011, [P]=2012, [Q]=2013, [R]=2014. |
| 2015 – 2026 | Non-sequential Unframed Year Letter + Artisan Code | Unframed year letters: T (2015), X (2016), A (2017), C (2018), D (2019), Y (2020), Z (2021), U (2022), B (2023), W (2024), K (2025), G (2026), followed by 2 letters and 3 digits identifying the workshop and artisan (e.g. WCT412 = 2024). |
Primary Counterfeit Red Flags for Hermès
- Square-framed letters after [R] (2014): Hermès never used [S] or [T] in a square; 2015 moved to unframed T inside the bag.
- Deep, machine-uniform indentation or foil colouring on a blind stamp (authentic blind stamps are hand-pressed without colour pigment).
- Stamps placed on the exterior back of a post-2015 Birkin or Kelly sangle (moved inside the left gusset from late 2015 onwards).
